If you were an actual og fan you’d know Ford didn’t exist until literally the last half of the second season. Things between the protagonist (Dipper) and the antagonist (Bill) were being built up and most people like the idea of enemies to lovers type dynamics that are angsty. A lot of ppl also resonated with Dipper as a character in general and then you have sexy bill art going around for a character ppl already liked and gravitated towards due to his charisma alone (charisma goes a long way as you can see ppl still thirsting for a triangle). Everyone likes a charismatic villain.

And regarding dipcifica, it’s simple. Most ppl, especially queer ppl, aren’t interested in shipping a Hetero ship that in my opinion was already kind of being hinted at in canon. That’s boring. I feel like either y’all weren’t there, or you just forgot the sheer level of general agreement the fandom had that Dipper was queer coded (trans and gay). Lots of young trans ppl (like myself) saw ourselves in Dipper.

Basically, no one owes you an explanation on what they ship or why. Canon doesn’t make a ship valid or not valid to ship. Ppl are allowed to play around with future aus, and if you still feel the burning need to go off on one of the biggest ships of the fandom you decided to invade or return to (Billdip) then please go touch grass and do something productive. No one cares what you ship and you shouldn’t care either. You’re not entitled to these characters. Instead of complaining and behaving like a 2 year old, go support the artists and writers that create content for the ship you do actually like.

so while i Have seen some stuff from s4 i havent seen all of it yet so i dont have the complete picture of how their relationship was but i do know enough to know that they did (and still do tbh) care for each other and tried their hardest to make compromises before The Great DivorceTM but well. we saw how it turned out. in another life they def couldve worked out but as you yourself said that would require them to be different ppl with different goals, mindsets, experiences, and circumstances so in the end it doesnt really matter anyway, whats done is done and all they can do is to try to reconcile and move past it -- and try to reconcile and move past it they did! with... variable results.

I will never believe Zu/tara shippers when they say they hate Kata/aang because it's "heteronormative" since one of the main complaints Kata/aang gets from them is that "no 14 year old girl would wanna date a bald boy who's younger and shorter then her" or how Aang gets called a bald lesbian as an insult. Idk man I think Katara ending up with the bad boy with anger issues who is most stereotypically masculine of all the Gaang boys and who she spends most of the story hating for hurting her and her friends (who also personally betrayed her trust when she tried to help him). Idk man I think if these two got together that'd be a lot more heteronormative, especially since they only became friends an ep before the finale started. I think Katara and Aang's relationship has writing issues too (I have a lot of gripes I'm not coming at this as a shipper) but it takes a particular kind of ship brainrot to argue Zuta/ra end game would have made more sense or been a better end game with the canon we are given. And arguing it's somehow less heteronormative to make Zuko get together with Katara. I can't with this fandom.

if either of these two ships fit the definition of heteronormativity, it’s zvtara, not kataang. Aang does not fit the western male character type. He is short, shaves his head, is pacifistic, and quite feminine compared to the other male characters. He gets insulted for doing things that characters deem as “feminine”, like weaving jewelry for one.

the show doesn’t actually support this idea that femininity is bad, but characters like Sokka who have narrow viewpoints early in the story try to ridicule him. toph also makes jabs at Aang’s femininity.

Zvtara shippers argument has never been about heteronormativity. It’s always been “misogyny”. The only reason they’re adopting heteronormativity in their list of vocab words they still don’t know the definitions of is bc most of us kataang shippers on here (tumblr) are gay, bisexual, etc. And because we, as majority lgbt ppl have stated that their ship is heteronormative, they just want to flip that to use against us even when it doesn’t apply.

Kataang simply doesn’t follow a typical m/f ship in terms of writing, characters or how they interact with one another. Which is by and large why it has been so hated by these idiots. They wanna say “muhhh heteronormativity” but in the same breath ridicule Aang’s femininity, say he isn’t masculine enough for her, call him a lesbian etc to undermine the ship. Just as they say “muhhh male gaze” when most kataang shippers are actually women, because most ppl involved in shipping communities and fandoms in general are women.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I only know of a couple of male kataang shippers on here, myself being one of them. Ships and fandoms are very much and have always been a female dominated community. That’s for any fandom or any ship I’ve seen.

this might be a little controversial, but i genuinely don’t understand why some ppl shove geto and gojo into heteronormative boxes to justify why they ship them the way they do. we’re talking about a gay ship here—why are we treating them like a straight couple?

i’ve seen ppl say geto is the “girl” in the ship bc he’s caring, he’s kind and considerate. because he wears robes that have dress-like silhouettes, has piercings and long hair. because he’s shorter than gojo. i think the worse part about it is when they take a small detail about him and turn it into something it’s not, like them saying that geto caring about gojo and asking him if he’s alright is a “wife-coded” thing to do. is being a good friend inherently gendered? is being gentle gendered?

these types of ppl also force gojo into being this alpha male caricature, a womanizer who’s emotionally unavailable, a trad man. they flatten his character into something that doesn’t even resemble him anymore all bc of a ship, all bc they want to perceive him a certain way. like, i promise u, gojo experiencing deeper emotions and being soft isn’t a threat to his masculinity.

gentleness/softness/tenderness does NOT cancel out masculinity.

People who ship incest… get real, it’s 2024. This includes half-siblings, step-family, adoptees, etc. because they ARE relatives. Yes, I have seen ppl in this fanbase say it’s ok to ship adoptees because they’re not “real family” — specifically using Thor/Loki as an example (in the replies of a post about Merlin & Mordred having a “brotherly” relationship, no less). Those of you still shipping Arthur/Morgana and Morgana/Morgause… A ship being gay doesn’t magically make it progressive. Abuse is not progressive, it is a result of one person’s sense of entitlement in conflict with another person’s autonomy.

Racism and misogyny — particularly this fandom’s misogynoir towards Gwen. Common sense, except many of you will read this and think it doesn’t apply to you when it does.

If you think that Arthur is incapable of loving Gwen as much as he loves Merlin (despite the opposite being true in canon), if you call Gwen “a beard” or act as if Arthur broke centuries of tradition to marry a servant out of “convenience” or to use her for her womb — why do you want Arthur to objectify this woman so bad?

If you think that Merlin would’ve needed to teach Gwen, Lancelot, or Elyan how to write despite the fact that Gwen and Elyan were co-running a small business with their father for years + the season 1 photoshoots of Gwen writing + s5 Gwen writing onscreen + the fact that Lancelot and Merlin were writing each other for years — we get it, you watched Holes.

Villainizing Gwen and/or Elyan (e.g. the Kingdom Come fan script). Gwen accepts Merlin’s magic with a grace that Arthur doesn’t offer in the same episode, but fans often interpret Arthur’s reaction with good faith and ignore Gwen’s entirely. She and Elyan both suffered the wrongful death of their father when Uther accused him of consorting with a sorcerer and didn’t give him a trial. Elyan saw/experienced firsthand the wrongful persecution of the Druids when he was possessed by the spirit of a Druid child, so fics where he is disproportionately aggressive towards magic while Leon and Arthur are disproportionately calm are especially transparent (e.g. that Arcane Dominion fic on Ao3).

If you think that whole Helios arc (especially with Gwen’s outfit) or all the “Southrons” shit in the show wasn’t racist (or, if you don’t know, please look up what orientalism is and how it affects people irl).

Homophobia - a lot of merthur shippers (and others, but one’s kinda more popular) have a lot of homophobic beliefs. For example, if you think that sub = bottom and dom = top, that is both misogynistic and homophobic. If you think that Merlin or Arthur (or, like, Gwaine) is “weaker” than the other and decide their position as dom/top or sub/bottom based upon that criteria, again you are being misogynistic and homophobic. This goes double for presenting Merlin as a dom/top because of his magic (not in general), when it’s pretty clear in the show that magic peoples are experiencing a genocide because they are stereotyped as dangerous. Hmm, I wonder what groups this logic might apply to in real life who are demonized and hypersexualized to justify their eradication… not gay and trans people, or poc, or other oppressed groups! They could never have anything in common with a hypothetical oppressed group !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Transphobia - fics going on about how “[x gender] could never [perform y reproductive function]” is obviously something you say when you forget or ignore that trans ppl exist. Doesn’t matter if you’re making fun of mpreg or whatever, and no it’s not just merthur fics.

Fiction is informed by reality, and may support certain societal aspects/ideas in return. Stories are a form of speech, which is cycled through the sociopolitical atmosphere of the storytellers. You are not immune to propaganda, but you are especially susceptible if you refuse to acknowledge that even allegories exist.

I just don't get why people hate on the original so much, I watched some of it, and it isn't bad! I actually laughed more at one episode of it then I ever laughed at spop, sure some of the jokes are corny, but they are still better than spop's jokes, alsoooo if the original never existed, the show they love so much wouldn't be here soooooooo
